Graham 'Dids' Dowdall akaGagarin has been making music on the edges of the musical galaxy for many years in many guises. He spent a sustained period playing and co-writing with the legendary Nico of the Velvet Underground. Since then he has recorded and collaborated with John Cale, Suns of Arqa, Eric Random, David Thomas & Pere Ubu, Bill Pritchard, Roshi feat Pars Radio, Low Bias, Raf and O and many others and has played festival, club and other gigs across the globe for the last thirty five years.
The Gagarin project was started in the late 90's following trips to Russia which included playing at the Tabyk shamanist music festival in Yakutsk and the notorious Britronica festival in Moscow. We are very happy to welcome him to The Real Music Club
Charlotte Glasson has played gigs at The Real Music Club before. This time she will be appearing with very special guest Chris Spedding. Charlotte and Chris will be playing a colourful blend of original tunes from influences ranging from world to jazz and blues.
Guitarist/singer/songwriter Chris Spedding has been a mainstay of the British session scene since the late 1960s, playing with just about everyone from Nucleus, Jack Bruce, John Cale, Brian Eno, Elton John, Mike Batt, Art Garfunkel, Katie Melua, Ginger Baker to Paul McCartney and The Bay City Rollers (anonymously!) During 1972–74, Spedding played a central role in Sharks, initially with ex-Free bassist Andy Fraser. They recorded two albums and toured with Roxy Music. After that, he toured and recorded with John Cale. He also played with Roy Harper's occasional backing band Trigger, notably on 1975's HQ album.
Solid Birds Flying will be making thier Real music Club debut when they open the show. They are Simon Mclennan on guitar/vocal, Joshua Simpson on drums and Duncan Edwards on bass.
They are described as the unique art rock equivalent of the paintings of Max Ernst or the films of David Lynch. The surreal lyrics and dark chords tend towards the atmospheric, but many influences may be noted: from the free explorations of Ornette Coleman to the intricate fingerpicked psychedelia of Spirit - with a raw overdriven valve sound and the powerful drums and bass of early 'Experience' underpinning the idiosyncratic whole.
Another eclectic and enthralling night at The Real Music Club. See you there.
